Synopsis: At 85 years of age, flamboyant MAVIS DAVIS finds herself widowed and in a nursing home. She has always been rather hyperactive for her age and finds the whole thing a bit boring. The other residents act as if they are already dead and Mavis longs for someone to play with.
That is until a rat keeps turning up in her room. She has a prophetic dream that it is her deceased husband and the when she wakes up, the rat is there. She picks it up and it is tame, it even listens to her and does what she says. She is convinced that it is the soul of her dead husband and does her best to keep him hidden letting him in and out of her room through the patio doors.
She tries to get the other residents to liven up a bit but it isn't until fellow crazy girl, PATTY moves in, that things start to spice up a little. Three other women who are jealous of Mavis and Patty go out of their way to make their lives difficult with their main objective being trying to trap the rat that Mavis is so fond of.
It is a funny depiction of life in a nursing home where the women try to get Mavis and Patty, and the rat, kicked out for good. Most of the residents can't understand why Mavis and Patty don't just act their age, to which they reply, 'Age smage!'
